Designated Outdoor Refreshment Areas
Where are they and how do they work?
Many people prefer dining and drinking outside these days, and more and more cities have designated areas that permit alcoholic beverages to be taken outside too. Stark County has several Designated Outdoor Refreshment Areas, often referred to as downtown outdoor refreshment areas or a DORA, including downtown Canton, Louisville, and Canal Fulton. Each area offers unique, local businesses and restaurants.
69 Acres to Explore
The downtown Canton DORA is expansive at nearly 69 acres. Try local favorites Conestoga Grill, Arcadia Grille, or George’s Lounge. Listen to live music at Buzzbin or one of the businesses in the Music Block. Or, treat your taste buds to something special from Fronimo’s or Fromage du Monde. If you just need something to wet the whistle, pop-into Imperial Room or 410 Martini Lounge and take a libation to-go. Enjoy strolling the walkable downtown full of public art and historic points of interest. Stop by for a game at the Escape Room Downtown or at Milestone, a board game bar that also offers gourmet hotdogs. Take a tour through one of the museums, or catch a show at the historic Canton Palace Theatre. There is a lot to see in downtown Canton and many photo-ops along the way as you explore, drink in hand.
Fun in Umbrella Alley
One of the best photo-ops in Stark County is Umbrella Alley, within Louisville’s DORA. Tucked just around the corner from the fanciful alleyway is one of Stark County’s craft breweries, UnHitched Brewing Co. The spacious outdoor seating and mural coated exterior at UnHitched is both an excellent photo-op and a welcome respite for a cold brew and quick bite to eat. Another dining option in the Louisville DORA is Scratch Steakhouse & Lounge or Grinders. Grinders Above & Beyond has a total of 7 locations around the county, each offering an extensive menu for casual dining in a family-friendly atmosphere. Throughout Umbrella Alley and the Louisville DORA, on Friday evenings starting in May and continuing through the fall, stroll through vendors at the Louisville Farmer’s Market.
